FAQ
1.Q: What is PLA?
A: PLA = Polylactic acid or polylactide, is obtained by fermenting sugars (such as from corn starch, sugar cane, tapioca or sugar beet pulp) or seaweed into lactic acid.
2.Q: Is PLA compostable?
A: PLA is biodegradable under industrial composting conditions, starting with chemical hydrolysis process, followed by the microbial digestion, to ultimately degrade the PLA.
3.Q: Can I compost the PLA in the garden?
A: No. PLA is compostable and biodegradable under certain conditions. PLA degrades very slowly if being discarded in natural environment (such as seawater, soil), and can’t be completely degraded into carbon dioxide and water in a short time.
