Understand the meaning of biodegradable plastics

Jul 14, 2020

Biodegradable plastics are a feasible and effective way to solve the environmental pollution of plastic waste and alleviate the shortage of petroleum resources, and it is one of the future development directions of the plastics industry. According to the different degradation mechanism, biodegradable plastics can be divided into incomplete biodegradable plastics and completely biodegradable plastics. Among them, incompletely biodegradable plastics refers to the mixing of a certain amount of substances with specific degradation in conventional plastics, which cannot be completely degraded by nature (such as PE, PP, PVC, etc.). Completely biodegradable plastic refers to the synthesis of biodegradable macromolecules from natural macromolecules or agricultural and sideline products through microbial fermentation, and can be 100% degraded by bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms in nature after being discarded, and finally decomposed into water and Carbon dioxide (such as PLA, PHA, PHB, PCL, etc.) plays a very good role in protecting the environment, so it is also called "green plastic". According to the composition and preparation method of the raw materials of plastic products, completely biodegradable plastics can be divided into microbial synthetic degradable plastics, chemical synthetic degradable plastics and natural polymer blended degradable plastics. In addition to its degradability, this kind of plastic has the properties of being easy to process and meeting the requirements of use. As a new type of environmentally friendly material, it is gradually replacing traditional petroleum plastics into thousands of households.
