From June 1, the national standards for paper cups issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the National Standards Commission will be officially implemented. Disposable paper cups should meet the following standards: No patterns can be printed within 15mm of the mouth of the cup. Previously, disposable paper cups have been only industry standards, lacking national standards. This national standard (GB/T 27590-2011) puts forward higher requirements on paper cup raw materials, additives, packaging, printing, etc. to ensure consumer safety. The most concerned is the first request for the printing position, which stipulates that the printed pattern on the outside of the paper cup should have a clear outline, uniform color and no obvious color spots, but "the cup should not be printed within 15mm from the cup body and within 10mm from the cup body.
"No printing at the mouth of the cup is to protect consumers." Dong Jinshi, executive vice president and secretary general of the International Food Packaging Association, said that at present there is no concept of food-grade ink in China, nor is there any printing ink that can be used to contact food. When drinking water, the lips touch the cup, the ink in the printed pattern may be ingested, especially benzene-containing ink is more harmful to health. At the same time, when the cup is set, there is a printed pattern on the bottom of the cup, and it is easy to rub the color onto the inner wall of another cup, so the bottom also requires no printing.
